Vampire Poll
Responses, Page 14
|
Back in the days when Sanguinarius: The Vampire Support Page was
located on AOL, I was able to run a short questionnaire from a modified
guestbook script hosted by AOL. Once I moved the site off of AOL's servers,
I no longer had the ability to run the response form off their script.
I've not found anything suitable since then to use, so I'm not running
the poll any longer or accepting new resonses; this may change someday
if I find a suitable script to use.
The poll ran from 3 January, 1998 until 31 December, 2000. I have archived
the responses the poll recieved in this section, and guests are still
able view them.

Response: I haven't met anyone who has been able to convince me
that they are vamps. I do believe in them, but I do not believe that they
live forever or are repelled by garlic or any of that.

better grasp of reality and are more in touch with our feelings and other
people's feelings as well

Response: Many vampires are fine, upstanding people. Great to talk
to and fun to be around. But then you have the freaks who make up stories
in order to convince themselves that they have some superhuman power.
I have done my share of research into vampirism and there are so many
vampires out there that give the whole group a bad name. But then again,
I guess that holds true for any group.

Response: I think a vampire is one who has a craving, insatiable
or otherwise, for blood. Some call it a hunger. One who cannot truly help,
nor may want to end, this craving. I do not define a vampire as the immortal,
unholy creature that society presents them as, nor do i define them by
romanticism. I have never met a vampire. I do not consider the fools who
try to convince us that they are that which they admire as vampires. Forgive
me if any one is offended.

a vampire to be a person who takes any type of "life substance" from another

Response: For me, personally, I believe that my "vampirism" is a
manifestation of an addictive personality. What it is for others, I can't
say, but I think anyone who has a genuine lust/craving/need/addiction to/for
blood could be defined as a vampire.

Response: People who crave blood or energy from others. *Not* people
who necessarily dress like Goths, wear sunglasses in daylight or think they
live forever. I have something of a romantic image of vampires, but I don't
suspect that this is the true case. I am, however, sick to death of the tortured
Anne Ricean vampire. If her characters can live forever, why the hell are
they so depressed?

Age: Depends on what you believe about age.
Response: Vampires are not condemned to walk the earth at night
or live forever. We don't HAVE to feed on people, but it sure does make
life a lot easier. We don't live forever, but yea, some of us can outlive
regular lengths of time. Most of us are fairly nice, and we respect others
if they do not believe in us (watch your neck). We can draw energy, and
we do. Most people tend to like us. Some people tend to hate us!!! That's
about it.

Response: Ok, I've read some of these, and quite frankly, I'm scared
to death of some of you who say you are vampires. I CAN DIE!!! Vampires
are not sexually beautiful like in Carpenter's "Vampires", well....some
of us are, but not all. There are ugly vampires!!! There are some very
interesting things said in here. I have real issues with people who think
vampires have to be depressed and lonely all the time!!! I really hope
some of the people in here are really joking about thinking they are vampires.
Plus, there are not going to be millions of us out there. We don't outnumber
the human populations. You can't walk down the street on ANY given day
or night and see 30 vampires. You really can't. I would also like everyone
to know that I have known I was one since I was like 5. My uncle explained
things to me and I understand. No....I'm not a sick-o, and my uncle did
not make me one, he told me I was born one. I am not one to be afraid
of!!

Response: i believe that vampires are living, unique individuals
that have to feed of some energy source to be complete. They are out of
the ordinary, and are far from the traditional view of them that the media
presents (e.g., Dracula). I personally believe that i am a psi-vampire
and i have for several years, although i do have a peculiar taste for
blood at times.

Response: I have a very good friend who is a vampire. I've known
her for a few years and have learned much about the lifestyle of this
ONE vampiress. I am not saying this applies to all vampires, but this
is an overview of the major parts of my friend's life in comparison to
popular vampiric beliefs and traditional patterns of thought relating
to the lifestyle of a vampire. My friend (who chooses to remain anonymous)
lives what I would consider an exciting life, at least in comparison to
my own. Nearly every night she hunts for her prey, human blood. She once
quoted this as a very good comparison to her need for blood: "Everyone
knows the phenomenon of trying to hold your breath underwater-how at first
it's alright and you can handle it, and then as it gets closer and closer
to the time when you must breathe, how urgent the need becomes, the lust
and the hunger to breathe -- and finally when you take in air and the
anxiety subsides...that's what it's like to be a vampire and need blood."
-- Francis Ford Coppola. A few comparisons: 1.) She is VERY photophobic
and very sensitive to light, but so am I, and I am not a vampire. Therefore,
I have not been able to make any direct connection between photosensitivity
and vampirism. 2.) She DOES need blood to survive. I believe it is a genetic
trait which induces this need, however I have no proof of this. 3.) She
loves garlic. There are no perceptible signs of sickness or pain after
she eats it. 4.) She is not immortal. Her life span, I do believe, is
much longer than a human's; however, it does not last forever. 5.) She
does kill her prey nearly everytime she hunts. If you think about it,
it would be better to die than to live in fear that the incident may happen
again. Her prey is better off dead. 6.) I have seen her kill on three
different occasions. There was no eroticism or sexual intercouse of any
kind surrounding the event. She does enjoy sex very much; however, she
does not put prey and sexual partners in the same group as a general rule.
(Nnote: Do not think I am one of her sexual partners. She happens to be
lesbian. I just wanted to make that clear.) This is just a few of the
differences between my friend, a real vampire, and the things that are
told through legends and stories. If you have any specific questions for
me, feel free to email me at xavierc@innocent.com As I have said, I am
unaware as to whether this applies to all vampires. My only source of
true vampiric information is my friend, and all I know about vampires
is what I have learned about her.
