Privacy Policy Statement

Last updated on November 24, 2014

Sanguinarius.org takes your privacy seriously. We provide you with a variety of online services and information, and you can browse most of our Website without giving us any information about yourself; but sometimes we do need information to provide services or features that you may wish to take advantage of. Please read the following Privacy Policy for the website of Sanguinarius.org to learn more about our data collection and privacy practices. By using Sanguinarius.org or its services, you agree that you are accepting the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

Data Collection

Visitors can access our Website homepage and browse most of our site without disclosing their personal data. For each visitor to our Website, our Web server automatically recognizes only the visitor’s domain name, but not the e-mail address (where possible). I believe it registers the visitor’s IP #, domain, and referring page, which is a pretty standard function of a web server.

Our server collects only the domain name, but not the e-mail address, of visitors to our Website. We collect the e-mail addresses of those who:

  • register for an account and post messages to our message board
  • register for an account to post comments, messages or other materials to our Website
  • submit links
  • register for an advertising account
  • communicate with us via e-mail
  • make postings to our chat areas
  • sign up for our various email or notification lists
  • make purchases from our online store

We collect aggregate information on what pages visitors access or visit; information volunteered by the visitor, such as survey information and/or site registrations; and we also collect dust (grin).

The information we collect is used to improve the content of our Website, notify visitors about updates to our Website, and to maintain user accounts with specific services we provide, and is not shared with other organizations for commercial purposes.

If you do not want to receive e-mail from us in the future, please follow the unsubscribe instructions found in the particular email (recommended method). If for some reason you are not able to unsubscribe by this method, then contact us via the information provided below in the “Contact Information” section (be sure to specify which e-mail list/s as well as the email address you wish to unsubscribe).

Cookies

A “cookie” is a very small text file that is sent to your browser from a web server and stored on your computer’s hard drive. It assigns a computer a unique identifier. It is essentially your identification card when you return to a web site. Cookies do not damage your computer. “The claim check you get from a dry-cleaning shop is a perfect mundane example of a cookie; the only thing it’s useful for is to relate a later transaction to this one (so you get the same clothes back).” — from The Online Computing Dictionary

With respect to cookies: We use cookies to store visitors’ preferences, record session information, such as which messages visitors have viewed on the message board or store logins, and to record user-specific information on what pages users access or visit.

You have the option to not accept cookies by adjusting the appropriate setting(s) on your browser. You will still be able to view the Website, but will not experience, in some areas, some functionality which is designed to make your visit more convenient.

User Accounts

If you use this site, you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account(s) and password(s) and you agree to accept responsibility for all activities that occur under your account(s) or password(s). If you are under 18, you may use the services provided by Sanguinarius.org only with the involvement or permission of a parent or guardian. Sanguinarius.org (including authorized assistants) reserves the right to refuse service, terminate accounts, or remove or edit content, in their sole discretion.

If you register for a user account for one or more services we provide, you can view and edit your information simply by logging on to your user account with your username and password.

Other Sites

This site may contain links to other sites, and may utilize on-site or off-site services provided by third parties in order to bring our visitors additional or enhanced services or functionality. While we encourage others to adopt policies that build trust and confidence in the Internet, we are not responsible for the practices or the content of other web sites.

For further information, consult the privacy policies of the individual third-party sites.

The sites displayed as search results or linked to in Recommended Links (formerly, The Real Vampire Directory)  are developed by people over whom Sanguinarius exercises no control. These other sites may send their own cookies to users, collect data, or solicit personal information.

The Recommended Links exhibits its search results in the form of a “URL redirector”, which means that when you click on a URL from a directory listing or search result, information about the clicked link (but not the user) is sent to The Real Vampire Directory, and the RVD in turn sends you to the site you clicked on. Sanguinarius.org uses this URL information to keep track of which links get clicked on, the total number of clicks a link receives, to determine sites’ popularity.

Third-Party Ad Servers and Services

With respect to Ad Servers: To try and bring you offers that are of interest to you, we have relationships with other companies that we allow to place ads on our Web pages. As a result of your visit to our site, ad server companies may collect information such as your domain type, your IP address and clickstream information.

For further information, consult the privacy policies of Amazon.com <http://www.amazon.com/o/subst/misc/policy/privacy.html/> and Google Adsense <http://www.google.com/privacy.html>.

Disclosure of Information

Sanguinarius.org will disclose your personal information, without notice, only if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on Sanguinarius or the site; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of Sanguinarius and its services, and, (c) act in urgent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of Sanguinarius.org, its Website, or the public.

Changes in Privacy Policy

Sanguinarius.org will post any changes to this Privacy Policy on its website.

From time to time, we may use visitor information for new, unanticipated uses not previously disclosed in our privacy notice. If our information practices change at some time in the future, we will contact you before we use your data for these new purposes, to notify you of the policy change, and to provide you with the ability to opt into or out of these new uses. We will post the policy changes to our Website to notify you of these changes, and provide you with the ability to opt into or out of these new uses. We will use for these new purposes only data collected from the time of the policy change forward. If you are concerned about how your information is used, you should check back at our Website periodically.

Upon request, we provide site visitors with access to a description of information that we maintain about them. Visitors can access this information by e-mailing us at the address below. Visitors can have this information corrected by sending us e-mail at the address below or logging in to a user area (where applicable) and updating the information themselves.

Well, I think that covers everything. If you have any questions about this privacy statement, or if you feel that this site is not following its stated information policy, you may contact us at the contact information listed below.
