Knowlege Archive

Some of what is or will be in this Archive may seem to some as being downright elementary. They may say to themselves, “DUH!!! Does Sanguinarius think we are all ignorant retards, or what?” Absolutely not! I am going on the assumption that there might be some who access this Archive who might NOT know anything about ANYTHING. At one point, NONE of us knew anything about this; somewhere along the way, we learned. Some are fortunate that they had someone who did know things to guide them and help them learn and survive (those are the ones who will say, “DUH!!” to this stuff), but others aren’t so fortunate. For whatever reasons, they have nobody to help them out, and they must learn things the hard way. Some of them end up dead, junkies, injured, confined to jails — or worse, mental institutions; if they’re lucky, other people will just look at them kinda funny and mutter amongst themselves the latest rumor they’ve heard…

This Archive is for those who need it, and can learn something from it, and replaces the old Articles Library and Vampire Guide/Handbook.

If you have any articles, information, useful tips, advice, techniques, etc., on things like feeding, dealing with the thirst, health or comfort concerns, psychic attacks and shielding, or whatever else you think would be useful and beneficial, please, please send it along.

Since we have quite a lot of information available on a large variety of topics, I’ve sorted them into some general sections to make it easier for you to find the type of information you’re looking for. In the Menu below, just click on the link to jump down to that section.

  1. Bloodletting for New Donors (2/15/2015) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy SphynxCatVP This article is written with an eye for the donors who don’t want to have pain (or at least not huge amounts of pain) associated with feeding a vampire. This will be especially applicable for donors who are more “vanilla” (don’t have pain-associated fetishes, for example), are more sensitive than usual to pain, or who are more nervous/less experienced (and more likely to be driven away by a bad/painful experience.) All vampires … Continue reading

  3. Hidden Truths of the Hidden (4/21/2010) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Gorath Lycan, were, therian, otherkin… there are so many variations and definitions that it’s easy to get lost in it all. Many have presumed to be the “authority” on what we (weres) are but the truth is that no one can be. We all experience what we are differently and in different situations. Some of us come to the realization of what we are in a snap. Some of us awaken to what … Continue reading
  4. What Does It Mean to Be a Vampire? (11/19/2008) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Anshar Seraphim Although vampires walk the annals of fiction and myth these stories are based loosely on medical and scientific fact. Every myth contains at least a sliver of reality, and it’s by understanding the distinction between that myth and the reality that we gain a fuller understanding of what we seek. Modern vampirism isn’t based on the cultural myth of vampires but it is based on the relationship intrinsic to the word … Continue reading
  5. Doctrines and Beliefs, Oh My! (7/11/2007) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy SphynxCat Every now and then I get a piece of e-mail that goes something like this: “I want to become a vampire. What are your doctrines and beliefs?” While I (and many others) have dealt with the “I want…” issue already in other articles, I’ve now gotten the doctrines portion of the question enough times that it’s time to write something to cover that too… THE SHORT ANSWER Vampirism doesn’t inherently have spiritual … Continue reading

You awaken one day to realize your child might be hiding a desire to drink blood. For a non Vampyre Parent, it HAS to be a nightmare! How does one cope with this terrifying phenomenon? 7. Confusion; or, Am I a Vampire? (6/6/2007) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Cynsanity Originally posted to the Vampire Community Message Board on February 6, 2007. A lot of times, young people come to these boards and ask THE QUESTION: “Am I a vampire?!”. Most of these persons seem to be confused about changes they have been noticing in themselves, changes others told them that they perceived, an intense fascination with vampires resp. vampirism, and numerous other things. Despite the fact that the policy/philosophy of the … Continue reading
  8. Maintaining Good Health (2/27/2006) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy SphynxCat Anywhere I turn in the community, it seems there’s always someone complaining about some aspect of their health. Most people would think that emotional issues and physical health problems are part and parcel of being a vampire, but for the most part it doesn’t have to be — you just need to know how to deal with what comes up, and how to prevent most of it. Here is a list of … Continue reading
  9. Solitary Vampyres; or, How to Live Incognito in Unfriendly Territory (11/20/2005) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy LadyCG The most difficult part of being a solitary vampyre, is the need for discretion. How does a vampyre cope when you are the only one of your kind around? What if you can’t find a donor, or feeding creates problems with your family or spouse? Worse, what if you’re a PAGAN Vampyre, living in fundamental Christian territory? When I decided to tackle this topic, I knew there were NO easy answers. I … Continue reading

Well, first off, you’re going to need to get a few basic concepts down. 1.) Discretion. I cannot stress this point enough. Some input was also received from the Smoke & Mirrors and Sanguinarius forums. Basic Foundations of a Good Donor-Vampire Relationship Honesty Be honest about what you need, want or expect. “Mixed signals” result in a miss. 13. Getting Blood from a Steak (12/11/2004) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy SphynxCat Those of you who deliberately don’t eat meat probably won’t want to read this. The rest of you, help yourselves! There are alternatives when you don’t have a regular donor. One of them is a nice rare steak. It can be expensive, but it can also make the difference between maintaining control and “vamping out” or losing control in a potentially dangerous situation. You will notice I’m specifically NOT claiming it a … Continue reading

  1. The Spirit of Vampirism (2/2/2015) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Hesperus We have all struggled with understanding our nature and what meaning, if any, can be derived from it. Countless members of the community have contributed their voices to this search for understanding, courageously challenging the oppressive and disheartening depictions of us by those who have not shared our struggle. 7. The Blood and the Life (1/16/2005) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Manfred Newstead If you stopped an ordinary person on the street and asked him to name one and only one characteristic that defines someone as a vampire, chances are, the answer would be “Blood.” Roaming around at night, turning into bats, having problems with mirrors — these things are part of the popular image of the vampire as well, but the primary thing everyone knows about vampires is that they suck blood. Right? … Continue reading

  10. Turning, Awakening & Sympathetic Vampirism (3/31/2003) - Print/PDF FriendlyMany vampires awaken on their own, generally sometime in their teens, possibly during or after they go through puberty. Some awaken earlier, or as far as they know, are “born like that”. Every vampire is “born like that”, but there is usually some point where one begins to manifest vampiric traits. 11. Vampire Traits (1/15/2003) - Print/PDF Friendlyby Jetstorm V Ok, so here it is…I read that no real definition can be given to what makes a true vampire. If you take the varied present meanings, true they won’t go together. If a real vampire is a real thing, then it would have real traits and characteristics though. Example: I believe myself to be for real. I have certain abilities that I can’t explain, also after extensive researching and debating, I’ve … Continue reading
  12. Realization (4/2/2000) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Wolfy Imperceptible to most is something that I have noticed. Something it would seem that all have or overlooked or rather they have failed to see, perhaps it was always there for them just lying beneath but for some reason they could never see it. 13. Blood and Psy Vamps: Not So Different, After All… (11/13/1998) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Sanguinarius I used to think think that blood vampirism is something completely separate from psychic vampirism, but now I am not so sure. I feel that perhaps blood vampires might even actually be a specialized type of psychic vampire. Don’t look at me like that; I’m not turning coat… Let me try to explain what I mean. Both blood vampires and psychic vampires are real vampires. The main difference is that psychic vampires … Continue reading

  16. The Surprises Awakening Brings (for ‘blood vamps’) (5/17/2003) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Sari This is a stage all blood vamps go through (and I’m pretty sure psi-vamps do, too), and it’s sorta like puberty — except that you have blood desires, not sex desires. Vampires & Blood Matters

  1. Occult Blood Test (2/19/2015) - Print/PDF FriendlyFrom a medical standpoint, here is something all blood drinkers may need to keep in mind, especially as we age… Blood, whether human or animal is not entirely digested in the human/Sanguinarian digestive system. These tests are called “occult blood tests,” and “fecal leukocyte tests.” What this means is, they … Continue reading

  15. Bloodletting and the Law (7/4/2006) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Harlot Originally posted by Lady CG on the Smoke and Mirrors Message Board on April 7, 2006. Bloodletting is used by many people for many different reasons. Vampyres use bloodletting to feed. Others use bloodletting as part of sex play. Still others use bloodletting as a form of release. How does the law view bloodletting for what may be described (inaccurately) as recreational purposes? This article is based on the law of England … Continue reading
  16. Finding Substitutes (2/27/2006) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Mike Future A lot of vampires tell me, “No substitute can quench my thirst for blood.” While this may or may not be true, more than usual, these folks haven’t taken the time to find substitutes that suit them. First off, the exact medical reason for our blood craving is not known. This fact may make it hard to diagnose proper blood substitutes, but conversing with fellow vamps has given us a solid … Continue reading
  17. Vampyres and Donors: A Symbiotic Relationship (1/16/2006) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Lady CG Finding and Choosing a Donor Most donors seem to prefer to choose their vampyres as opposed to a vampyre finding THEM. The problem is that we vampyres are often a bit too secretive for our own good, when it comes to finding our meals. But looking back on all this later, I realized that neither person had actually told me that they’d … Continue reading

If a wild animal gave in to its blood-lust on impulse it would lose its prey. You can die. At some point in your life, you will die. … Continue reading
  31. Blood: How Much is Too Much? (7/1/2002) - Print/PDF Friendlyby Ravena For some blood drinkers, there is no such thing as too much blood. However, there is such a thing as giving too much blood. I am called a vampire, yet I seldom if ever call myself that, as I don’t like the term much. Neither require an addiction; neither are … Continue reading
  34. On Methods of Blood-Letting (9/15/2001) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Ingrid Blackmore Well, there are certainly a variety of ways in which a vampire takes blood. When I became a donor, I knew very little about blood-letting, and just assumed that the vampire would bite my neck. *winces at the thought* However, she generally uses brand new razors, lancets, or surgical scalpels to make small cuts on my upper back, rear end, breasts, or upper thigh. 7. Addressing Psy-Vamps and Bi-Polar Disorder (10/14/2014) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy LadyChrys First let me say that I am, of course, a psyvamp, and I don’t have bipolar disorder. Mostly stressed teens who have been through abuse, and who may have tried to commit suicide and older adults have bipolar disorder [Ed: See Editor’s Note, below.]. My mother is one of these older adults, and she’s not a psychic vampyre. Many of these teens who have bipolar disorder may also be psyvamps. Psyvamps tend … Continue reading

Being a part of the vampire community has shed some light on certain issues for me as of late. All my life I have battled having low energy and have always felt the … Continue reading
  9. Psychic Vampires and Dreamwalking (12/3/2007) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Michelle Belanger Most psychic vampires have an instinctive ability to feed over long distances. Long-distance feeding, however, requires a significant expenditure of energy on the part of psychic vampires, who must extend tendrils of their own energy to connect with their target. In addition to the initial expenditure of energy involved in extending this tendril, the distance itself has an impact on the exchange, such that the greater the distance being covered, the … Continue reading
  10. Astral Vampires and Dreamwalking (8/25/2007) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Michelle Belanger According to occultist Dion Fortune, an astral vampire is created when a powerful magickal worker refuses to submit to the “second death”, or death of the astral shell. This astral shell is essentially the same vessel one projects when engaging in astral travel, and according the Fortune’s views, it naturally expires a short while after the physical body dies. If somehow the astral shell is sustained past the death of the … Continue reading
  11. Understanding Energy, A Journey (7/2/2006) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Anshar Seraphim Energy. It has many forms and incarnations, some of which are known to the world at large, and some of which elude us in any definitive way, yet pervade our every waking moment. Energy Work, as it has been called by many, is the conscious redirection and application of thought energy. It holds great meaning to many, but to some it’s superstitious nonsense. In my many years of Energy Work, I … Continue reading
  12. Overview of Shielding Techniques (3/25/2006) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy SphynxCat Shields are your primary method of protection from psychic/psionic attack and possible damage, with a variety of different styles used for different purposes. While some people may settle on a preferred shielding method and stick pretty much to that, it is recommended that you learn and practice multiple shielding methods so that you’re better prepared in different situations. This overview is not a complete list, since anyone can develop new methods. As … Continue reading
  13. Alternative Methods for Psychic Self-Defense (11/19/2005) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy The Vampyre Psykic Most of those reading this are probably familiar with the concept of shielding as a form of psychic self-defense. If you’re not, shielding essentially means creating a barrier of spiritual energy around oneself that either blocks energy from the outside, or keeps the individual’s energy from being drained. Shielding works very well to keep harmful energies out, but many are familiar with the flaw it has in defending against a … Continue reading
  14. A Meditation for Spiritual Cleansing (6/16/2005) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy The Vampyre Psykic It occurs to me that perhaps the reason we suffer such dreadful effects from lack of feeding isn’t entirely caused by the lack of energy. Thus I’ve developed a kind of meditation that, in my experience, seems to help partially quell the effects of non-feeding, at least for a time. Many acupuncturists believe that the root of all illness and disease is caused by inconsistencies or blockages in a person’s … Continue reading

  18. Shielding 101 (2/28/2005) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy SphynxCat What is a “Shield” Anyway? In this usage, “shielding” refers to psi-based defenses around yourself, commonly either within or along the “edges” of your aura/energy field. “Shields” are often called many things by different people, including “wards” or “personal wards”, “psi defenses” and so on, all depending on the person’s experience and preferences. No matter what you call it, it’s still a form of protection from outside influences such as psychic attack … Continue reading

  20. What is a Psi-Vampire? (9/20/2002) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Crimson^Angel What is a Psi Vampire? This is an interesting question. A psi vampire is a person or thing that lacks the ability to keep or maintain his, her, or it’s own energy due to a leak in their astral or soul form. Because of this leak, they lose their energy as a faster rate than a person or thing that doesn’t have a leak. What happens when you are leaking vital energy? … Continue reading
  21. The Truth About Magick (9/20/2002) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Sanguinarius (Originally posted to the Vampiric Community Message Board on 7 July, 2002) Magick is not dependent upon whether your intentions are selfish. But, chances are, if you know that what you are wanting is selfish, then your mind will balk at it, and you will not focus and give it your all. Kind of like doing something you really don’t want to do halfheartedly because someone else says you have to. Magick … Continue reading
  22. Dynamic Energy Exchange (9/1/2002) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Michelle Belanger Dynamic energy exchange requires at least one person adept at refining energy. The process is initiated just like feeding. There are two people. One is the donor. The other is the taker. The one who is taking does not need to know refinement of energy: this is for the donor to perform during the exchange. The donor and the taker should be in close physical contact with one another. There are … Continue reading
  23. The Basics of Shielding: A Visual Approach (2/14/2002) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Lif Fossimilis In order to understand shielding, one must first understand the basis of psionics, that is, quite basically, that everything is made up of energy and that very energy may be manipulated to various degrees. There are many things that you might wish to shield yourself against, but for purposes of this article, I will assume that your desire is to shields yourself against being drained of energy. This type of shield … Continue reading
  24. Emotional Vampirism (11/19/1999) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Sarah Dorrance (Emotional vampirism, or what Anton LaVey calls “psychic vampirism,” is not to be confused with conscious psi-vamping.) One type of vampirism frequently gets swept under the rug in real-vamp discussions, and that’s the need to feed on the emotions of others. It’s a very real hunger, and it’s just as demanding as any other vampiric hunger, perhaps even more unbearable because the vampire’s own emotions are involved. I think one reason … Continue reading
  25. Shields (8/14/1999) - Print/PDF Friendlyby Raven Corvus Here are the “instructions” for personal / property shields. The first thing to do before any shields go up is to evaluate what energies work best for you, and what you want to shield. What energies work for you are often, but not necessarily, related to your astrological elements. For example, I am a Libra, which is an air sign, and by default the easiest shield for me to use is … Continue reading

Hybrid Vampire Matters

  1. A Hybrid Vampire Manifesto (8/26/2011) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Zero Nightskye We’ve all heard, and explained to death the realities of psychic and sanguinarian vampires. But how often do the other main type of vampire, hybrids, get mentioned? I know, I know, when you hear the term “hybrid” you often think a crossbreed… or a car. But that’s not the case, well, not exactly. While we are not cars, or “half breeds”, we are in fact a combination of both sang and … Continue reading

Spiritual Matters

Often, upon discovering or developing a theory that explains our nature, we cling to it and proudly exclaim what we have found only … Continue reading
  2. Akhkharu — Sumerian Vampires? A Scientific Argument (8/11/2011) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Cynsanity It is no rare occurrence that someone comes to the OVC (online vampire community), claiming to know secrets about “Sumerian vampires”, the so-called ‘akhkharu’. As I’ve tried to explain why this term is neither Sumerian nor in any way related to ancient Mesopotamia numerous times, I have decided to write a concise and yet complete explanation on why this term doesn’t mean “vampire” and, indeed, doesn’t even exist. As for my credentials … Continue reading

  5. Neovampyrism (4/10/2005) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy The Vampyre Psykic I hear that there are many vampyres/vampires (I’m really not the type of person that nitpicks over spelling) out there who are repeatedly approached by non-vampyres wishing to be turned/embraced/whatever. Now the standard response we would normally give is usually something to the effect of “You can’t become a vampyre, you have to be born one. You’re wasting your time looking for someone to turn you.” Now this response may … Continue reading

  7. Mystical Vampirism (8/6/2002) - Print/PDF Friendlyby Sarah Dorrance Mysticism is far too easily abused. The gnostic urge in us is very strong — we humans as a species desperately need mystery, but we live in an age when God is either dead or seems to have been appropriated by fundamentalists. Most of our myths have likewise been proven false. I can only think of two ages more cynical in Western history: the late Roman Empire, and the Age of … Continue reading

  7. Donoring (11/4/2007) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Musidora I’m often asked how does one become a donor for a vampire. 11. Choosing and Working with Donors (4/16/2006) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Ravena Lee A Word About Respect For those who identify themselves as vampires, a donor is often the key to general health and comfort. They should not be referred to as food or cattle. Vampires who refer to donors … Continue reading

  4. Real Vampire Community Personal Safety & Privacy Awareness (10/1/2014) - Print/PDF FriendlyA sobering message to the participants of the vampire community By Merticus & Zero The vampire community was formed in part to promote the well-being of its members with a supportive social network. We’ve done an admirable job in promoting safer feeding practices, sensitivity and acknowledgment of donor concerns, and sharing the most effective ways to manage or conceptualize vampirism. We’ve supported one another as we discovered that it was acceptable to form our … Continue reading
  5. Etiquette Amongst the Damned; or, Vampire Ethics (8/18/2011) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Corvis Nocturnum Almost parallel to “normal everyday life” there is another. At night we find Vampires do exist in dark nightclubs across the country, and we occasionally find Satanists performing rituals who aren’t Devil worshipers at all. There are people dressed as Dominatrices, complete in bondage gear, in this world rich in its mix of diverse and wondrous people, each one having their own story. In dealing with our fellow travelers in the … Continue reading
  6. Real Vampire Community Abuse Awareness Campaign (6/23/2011) - Print/PDF FriendlyA message to visitors, newcomers and all those on their paths of discovery By Zero & Merticus The real vampire community is an open and accepting culture, which should be a safe space to engage in introspection and the open exchange of ideas. Whether you have a solid self-understanding as a vampire or non-vampire, or whether you’ve come to the community in pursuit of such an understanding, the community is a place which is … Continue reading
  7. Reflections on the Current Vampire Trend: Embracing the Darkness After Twilight (4/29/2011) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Lady Lily As one of the many who went to see Twilight this last Friday, I couldn’t help but think about how in vogue vampirism and the goth look seem to be this season. There have even been poorly written puff pieces designed to shock and/or frighten the unassuming public into the reality of our existence in local papers all over the country, doubtlessly inspired by the starry-eyed infatuation of Bella Swan and … Continue reading

  9. A Kind Note About Vampire Discrimination (2/3/2009) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Alynna Trypnotk, Kitsune I write this small article about a disturbing trend I see in the pagan community and other spiritually aware communities about discrimination against vampires and psivamps. I write this as a kitsune and in the interest of full disclosure I will note that kitsune are energy vampires by nature, so this article may also seem to be serving a purpose of defending myself. However I am in full awareness of … Continue reading
  10. The Essence of the Vampire (4/5/2008) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Hawkmoor In my previous dissertation; “Red, Red Wine: The Modern Vampire”, I deliberately set out to demonstrate that Vampires exist, as a group of people who feel attractions and needs that are dissimilar, yet in some ways frighteningly familiar, to normal people. I demonstrated how everyday things can assume whatever significance, or relevance, one may wish to attach; in this essay I shall detail the manner in which the modern Vampyre thinks, reacts, … Continue reading

I’ve been seeing a lot of crap lately on a number of boards and locations, and I think it’s time that I put forward MY view, to help clear the air some. So, without further ado… To start with, my defining what a vampire is or … Continue reading
  12. On ‘Vampiric Rape’ and Prey, Part 5 (11/4/2007) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Lauren Finally, I would like to leave you with this. As humans, our bodies are created in such a way that if the body has a deficiency, we will crave the substances that provide the subject of the craving. Hypoglycemics, when sugar levels drop, will crave candy, or fruit or foods that contain sugar. When one’s potassium levels drop, the individual may crave potatoes or bananas. Whatever method of delivery that will satisfy … Continue reading
  13. On ‘Vampiric Rape’ and Prey, Part 4 (11/4/2007) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Lauren I want to bring up a very practical topic if one is considering vampiric rape. Health risks. If you’ve read this far, and you still think this practice is A-OK, I feel safe in saying you don’t care about your victim and your only consideration is yourself and meeting your own desires. So, let’s talk about you. For the past 20 or so years, the ingestion, or contact of body fluids has … Continue reading
  14. On ‘Vampiric Rape’ and Prey, Part 3 (11/4/2007) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Lauren “Sometimes, the word rape is used colloquially to dysphemistically describe forms of non-sexual unwelcome conduct (‘My team got raped on the field yesterday’), or metaphorically as in ‘the rape of the Earth’ referring to environmental destruction, possibly implying a female gender of the Earth (Gaia). Other than in literary usage discussed above, this use of the term is unrelated to the original sense of ‘abduction’ or ‘carrying off’ and implies a comparison … Continue reading

  16. On ‘Vampiric Rape’ and Prey, Part 1 (11/4/2007) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Lauren In our society, “rape”, by legal definition, requires a forced sexual act. However, by the general definition of the word, it means to “seize prey; take by force”. It is of this definition of “rape” I wish to speak to you today. It is the belief of some vampires that, because they crave, and since another human has what they crave, it is okay to find one who is weakened, unsuspecting, vulnerable … Continue reading

  20. ‘The Black Veil’, v. 4 Plus Commentary (3/22/2007) - Print/PDF FriendlyThe Black Veil has undergone yet another revision.  This time, it seems to be a complete rewrite, abandoning previous versions, and scaling back to only 5 tenets.  It’s been endorsed by many to lend it legitimacy, though few of the names will probably be recognized outside of the increasingly exclusionary Ordo Strigoi Vii. Interestingly, it is now considered by the author to be a trademark of Sabretooth, which is Father Sebastiaan van Houten’s fangmaking business.  … Continue reading

The Dilemma Over Awakening Teens (2/9/2007) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Countess Amenti With the increasing amount of teenagers awakening as vampires and/or otherkin comes the increasing dilemma of how to help them though the difficult time. 23. Our Paths and Our Community (2/7/2007) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy GabrielX I’d like to share my interpretation of what the path means. Be forewarned though, it is not my intention to paint a fantasy community of goodness, well being, and kindness towards one another. That would be a lie. My intention is to show those entering into the various communities the realities that they will face. If they have a better understanding of how things play out, they can prepare accordingly. Knowing why … Continue reading

  25. 27. Why We Use the Term “Mundane” (3/16/2005) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy SphynxCat In the early years of the online vampire community, there were many terms in use for describing non-vampiric people. Some of these terms included “mortal” (which implied that we were immortal), “human” (which implied that we were…well…something else), “nil” (which implies…brain-dead? or something…) and “normal” (which implied that we were abnormal or perhaps in need of psychiatric care). Because most of us do “mundane” things like pay bills, have doctor visits, go … Continue reading
  28. A Vampire Manifesto (Sort Of) (3/16/2005) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Sarah Dorrance I decided tonight to try to sum up my thoughts on the whys and wherefores of vampirism… such as they are. I still think it’s pointless to try to explain why vampires are what they are. There are too many reasons, most of them failing to express all but a part of what might inspire the need or desire to feed. None of them are right or wrong; and sorting them … Continue reading
  29. In Defense of Lifestylers (11/19/2004) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Louche I would like to say first that I am not a lifestyler. I am, though, an individual who likes to know, deep down, no matter how secretive I’m being, aside from my work-a-day wardrobe, that I am in fact a vamp, that I can be vampish if I really want to. 30. ‘The Black Veil’, v. 3 Plus Information and History (9/19/2004) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Michelle Belanger The Black Veil is a set of ethical guidelines designed to serve as a moral compass for the vampire community. The original Black Veil was written by Father Sebastiaan van Houten (then-called Father Todd) for the Sanguinary Society (later the Sanguinarium) in 1999 (possibly 1998). Subsequent revisions were made by Michelle Belanger in the fall of 2000 and later in 2003. As there is such diversity within the vampire community, the … Continue reading

Real Vampires; or, A Rose is a Rose (9/12/2004) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Crimson^Angel Real Vampires, normally I wouldn’t start a sentence this way because who is to say what is real and what isn’t. I have come to the conclusion that recycled information is the way to go when you’re trying to give insight on what is … Continue reading

On Forming Vampiric Culture and Lifestyle (2/4/2003) - Print/PDF FriendlyOriginally posted as part of a thread in the “Vampiric/Vampyric Culture and Lifestyle” forum on Sanguinarius’s old ezBoard (12/22/2000). Someone wrote, I think what this corner of the board was originally intended for were the typical posers to the lifestyle. i.e. those who have no need for blood whatsoever, but perpetually lose themselves in the supposed romanticism of being a vampire. Actually, a little of both. There are a number of those who are … Continue reading

Do I think they’re sensible? Yes. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have bothered to type them up. If you are involved with blood or other bodily fluids, practice strict safety precautions. 42. Why the Ouroboros Symbol? (9/1/2002) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Sarah Dorrance The serpent eating its own tail is not an image specific to vampires, or even associated traditionally with vampires. It is a very old symbol. First seen in alchemy, as a semiotic motif representing the never-ending process of refining prima material into gold, it reappears in European heraldry and in works of art. Let’s look at the two components of the ouroboros: the beast itself, and the fact that it is … Continue reading

  11. Of Learning and Vampiric Nature (4/15/2005) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Ascian First and foremost, I am a vampire, by whatever definition or whichever spelling. I don’t mean I am a goth guy, dressed in black from head to toe and living the lifestyle, though in my younger years I did exactly that (partially because it drew the “right” people to me and partially because I did and do look really hot in all black). No, I am a vampire because of my nature. … Continue reading
