Articles: Awakening Vampires

Articles dealing with the problems and issues newly awakened and teen vamps face: school, work, parents, coping with awakening, how to enter the vampiric community without looking like a fool, and more.

Most self-identified real vampires awaken sometime during their teen years, although there are some who awaken earlier, but also some who awaken in their twenties, thirties, or even later; some vampires never awaken or self-identify. This section of the Articles Library is part of what was originally the Teen Vampire section, and will contain mostly articles for teens, or for a teenage point-of-view. However, I am expanding the section to more readily include information relevant to other age brackets as well. So if you’re older, please don’t feel patronized or unrepresented. This section is a work-in-progress and will continue to develop as time goes by.

A practically classic quote: “I am turning 17 in a month, and I find it is very hard to find a donor because people either think that you are some stupid child or that you are too young. Too young? It’s not really our choice that we were awakened, especially not at this time when so much is going on. It’s yet another thing to add to the list of teenage problems!” — Anonymous

  1. My Vampirism (2/19/2015) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Crimson I am a vampire. I have said those words to only two people in my life, and when faced with telling my parents, I was fully unable. What am I supposed to say? There’s enough fear here to be shared around. The first thing that comes to mind is the gothic look, the pale skin, the tendencies toward video games and other things that will convince my parents, those people who “always … Continue reading

  6. Wearing Sunglasses in School (11/13/2008) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Day Okay, so the florescent lights are getting to you, the huge friggin’ windows (carefully placed on the east and west sides of the building) are kneading your eyeballs into playdough, and you just want to wear some sunglasses. But there’s a problem. In that little student handbook (perhaps in the front of your agenda?) it says that only prescription sunglasses are allowed. That’s so not fair. Well, for your information, you possibly … Continue reading
  7. Psi-Shielding & Problems (11/13/2007) - Print/PDF FriendlyFrom Shadow_Raver [At the time of this writing] I am 19 years of age and have been a hybrid [psi and sang combo] since the age of six and have been very lucky in that six of my immediate family are sang, psi, or hybrid vampires and were available to help me through my Awakening. This article is not so much focused on the problems, but to provide some possible solutions that “new” vampires … Continue reading
  8. Nine Considerations for a Fledgling Vampire (8/30/2007) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Ascian Whatever you are, and whatever choices you make, I fully support your right to make them, to express yourself, to join the “community”, to call yourself whatever you will (as if my, or anyone else’s, support matters in the least). From here forward, though, I will be talking to you as if you are indeed what you think you are — a vampire: a human who must live as a parasite, taking … Continue reading
  9. Confusion; or, Am I a Vampire? (6/6/2007) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Cynsanity Originally posted to the Vampire Community Message Board on February 6, 2007. A lot of times, young people come to these boards and ask THE QUESTION: “Am I a vampire?!”. Most of these persons seem to be confused about changes they have been noticing in themselves, changes others told them that they perceived, an intense fascination with vampires resp. vampirism, and numerous other things. Despite the fact that the policy/philosophy of the … Continue reading

  11. So You’ve Found Out You’re a Vampire… (11/13/2005) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Angelus Cretus Deus (Originally posted to the Vampiric Community Message Board on 2004-01-05.) “…Now what?”, you may be asking. Well, first off, you’re going to need to get a few basic concepts down. 1.) Discretion. I cannot stress this point enough. I know many new vampires have an urge to tell people, or to flaunt it in some way to make it obvious to other people they’re different. This doesn’t make you stupid; … Continue reading
  12. Being Discreet About Being a Vampire (5/13/2005) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Haley (spaztic_child_13@hotmail.com) Something that all awakening vampires should know is that they should ONLY tell those with an open mind. I learned this the hard way. And they also need to not be scared to admit what they are to themselves. It’s all right to talk to really close and open minded friends about awakening. I did and found out one of my friends was awakening as well and two other ones are … Continue reading
  13. Entering the Community Properly (12/11/2004) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Jarryd (Originally posted to the Vampiric Community Message Board on 11 July, 2004.) Too many times I’ve seen people make introduction posts on message boards, enter chatrooms and ask questions through emails in the worst way possible to start off a “relationship” with the online community. And most of the time this is done by newbie vamps or people questioning their vampirism. So I’ve decided to write this little guide for all you … Continue reading
  14. Hanging in There (11/12/2004) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Anonymous While I’ve been a vampire for a little while myself, I have not been able to tell anyone except two of my very close friends. High school is an extremely hard place to be open about who you are because of gossip and all of the people in it. I don’t worry about what people think about me, but it does kind of itch when you hear what people are saying about … Continue reading
  15. Dealing with Others’ Reactions (12/12/2003) - Print/PDF FriendlyOn September 15, 2003, I posted a message on the Vampiric Community Message (& Support) Board asking teen and school-aged vampires a number of questions about being outed and dealing with the reactions of friends and family. I let them know ahead of time that I might use their responses in this section. I have included a selection of responses which I feel might give other teen vampires ideas for coping strategies. Responses have … Continue reading
  16. The Surprises Awakening Brings (for ‘blood vamps’) (5/17/2003) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Sari This is a stage all blood vamps go through (and I’m pretty sure psi-vamps do, too), and it’s sorta like puberty — except that you have blood desires, not sex desires. When I recently went through my awakening, I discovered it was HELL. Insomnia, being unable to be in light without pain or discomfort, and the constant desire to suck your friends’ blood were just a few of the things that changed. … Continue reading
  17. Ethics for the Recently Awakened Vampire (4/12/2003) - Print/PDF FriendlyBy Pyewacket A list of things that all ‘blood vampires’ should keep in mind, specifically those having to deal with both vampirism and High School. Thanks to Obsidean and sarasvati for contributing. 1.) Being a vampire does not give me an excuse to act superior to non-vamps. 2.) I will be patient with anyone new to vampirism and not give them faulty information. 3.) People do stupid things when they’re young: I will not … Continue reading
