(An entry from my Journal, dated July, 1992)by Sanguinarius
I no longer support the so-called "virus theory." -- Sanguinarius.]
Some thoughts regarding vampires, without background information, which I don't assume other readers of this might know. (But since this isn't FOR other readers, but for me, then that doesn't present a problem. I shall, nonetheless, attempt to make sense without producing pages and pages of information on vampires -- be it folklore, or reality.--I'd NEVER get a chance to say what I mean to say, if I have to explain everything and the way it is... For ONE thing, I am not going to explain the differences between the actual way things are, and the perceived and mistaken way that "non-vampires" and the great majority of the rest of humanity seem to think things are.)* [NOTE: The following has not been medically proven, documented, tested, etc.; and is, therefore, technically only a theoretical explanation of the forces that move behind the scenes to cause what is (not commonly known as) the condition of vampirism...--Sanguinarius.] Vampirism is caused when specific genetic material is introduced to and joins with the host body's DNA, to alter it. If there is a gene FOR aging (or if there is NOT a gene for NOT aging) in the DNA genetic structure, then the vampirism-causing genetic material (a "virus" or "viroid") causes that part of the DNA to be altered so that the host requires certain chemical genetic material if he is not to age, for instance.
The way the required material works is (I think) kind of the way vitamin C works. A body requires it for maintenance and as long as it's present the body is maintained in that manner, but it doesn't stay present and a body requires more of it or its lack will have an adverse effect on the body: susceptibility to and lack of resistance to fight colds, for instance. But as long a a body gets what it requires, it is maintained. (This material, vitamin C, is found in orange juice.) The material that a body requires after having had the "virus" introduced, happens to be found in blood. The virus PROBABLY affects the bone's marrow, so that the body doesn't produce, or produce enough of, the material to meet the requirement of the virus (or the virus-altered DNA); which is why A.) the body requires blood, and B.) consuming one's own, or another vampire's, really does no good beyond dulling the immediate sensations of the Thirst. Now, this "virus" is contracted through the consuming (or transfusion) of the blood from one who "is a vampire." Having the virus means a person can give it to another that way. (Unless he is immune, for some reason, say, naturally? or perhaps he became immune through receiving an amount of the blood insufficient to change him, but enough to sort of "innoculate" him. If this is so--and I do not know, and have heard nothing regarding this,--would the immunity be be permanent or temporary? Or would it even occur? The condition is a slight mutation or alteration in a person's DNA-structure,--which requires the aforementioned genetic material to form a gene to stop ageing, or to alter the one that causes it.--Most likely, it is the first instance. Some people are born with the natural predisposition to merely obtain the required genetic material in order to complete the process of halting ageing; and the others are "created" from them. [Else, vice-versa; since I wrote this, I have heard indication that it's contracted, alters DNA, which is subsequently passed on.--Sanguinarius.] As long as a person (who has that pre-disposition) keeps getting a sufficient and regular supply of the required material,--found in blood (DUH!),--it keeps him from ageing any. If he fails to get it, he will not die or age rapidly into his actual age, or whatever. He will merely begin ageing again at the normal rate (after going through a withdrawal period for several different reasons). Oh, and by the way, he still will continue to experience the drive, which is the Thirst. So, blood is an addiction (or rather, the chemical or material in the blood...if that were found in honey or earwax, then that would be what vampires are after, instead of blood. ...imagine that...) to those who are "vampires." If one stops getting the material, then they are still a vampire because they've got the (see diagram) "blue material" still a part of their DNA. They just aren't getting any of the "red material" to stop ageing. And if they re-start getting it later, then the ageing is halted. But the process only works as long as regular and adequate supply of blood is consumed. (It would be interesting to determine whether the biological clock could actually be reversed if and excessive amount were regularly consumed. Although that would, indeed, be a Faustian compromise, as one would--amazingly enough!--get so sick and tired of the whole constant, bloody affair of obtaining it and especially--gasp!--of consuming it. * * * The primary goal of physical existance is to survive. [The secondary, to procreate in order to continue the species.] Since this condition allows one to survive longer, the requirement for blood is expressed as a drive, a craving, a lust or thirst,--to give the body impetus to go out and obtain it in order that its need be satisfyed and its requirement met. If it is not obtained, then the drive is incresed because the person needs it more so than before. Also, the painful (or at the very least, acutely uncomfortable...) process of not having it becomes more ingrained as time passes: the longer one indulges in obtaining/consuming it, the more the body's dependence upon the material increases. The bottom line is: One needs blood because they are a vampire. That, basically, is vampirism explained, or why vampires need blood. Basically... ###
