Alone in Your Area?

"My problem is, that in my country, there are no vampire communities or anything like, and I find myself alone in here. I am the only vampire in my family, as far as I know. So, I wanted to know if you could help me?" -- from Anonymous

If you are living in a country or region where the vampire community is either underground or has not developed, that does not mean that there are no other vampires around. But it can be difficult, lonely, and frustrating trying to find them. They may feel as you do, not realizing that they are not alone, but have no way of knowing where others are or how to find them. Or perhaps they are too shy or scared to "come out" because of the social or political climate. There may not be very many others around, but I can practically guarantee there are at least a few.

The Real Vampire Directory has a "Regional Groups" category covering all the regions of the world. It's a listing of the state/province, regional, and country-specific real vampire/otherkin related e-groups, email lists and online/offline communities, clubs, Houses, and various other organizations; all world-regions are included, though there might not be groups listed in all of them. There are many more groups in existence than what's listed; they just have not been submitted (yet). Hopefully, that will change in the future.

There are also the Vampire Meetups which happen in many, many cities worldwide. Go to the site and type in your city or zip code to find one in your area. If there isn't an active vampire Meetup group, you can always start one up (become an Organizer -- this may take work and perseverance), choose a nearby city or location, or go to the main page and search for a different topic of interest; there are many to choose from, including goths, witches, otherkin, pagans, and many mundane topics.

Another alternative is to post notices on some of the vampire personals sites, announcing that you are seeking others in your country or region. You might not get a response right away, and you might not get one at all, but you need to let others know so that if anyone else from your country does happen to see your announcement, they will 1.) know that they are not alone, and 2.) have a way to contact you if they wish to.

There are organizations, such as ShadowLore, which have regional chapters or branches and would be willing to establish one in your area if they see there is interest. That could be a good start to developing the community and finding others like yourself in your area. ShadowLore's main website is at and their main discussion group is at ; they also have branch-specific discussion groups. Join that group, see how you like the people, see if there are others from your country who are also members. Talk to Mairi La Pier (the founder) about a branch in your area. There may be one, or there may be others interested in setting one up; if not talk to her about starting one up.

The more presence you have online, the more chance there is that others from your area or country will see you and get in contact, and the more chance there will be that the beginnings of a community will start to develop. The above information may not sound like much, but it is a step in the right direction; finding others may not be easy, and it may not happen overnight, but it is possible. And so is building a community in your region or country.

Eerie America TV Series

Eerie America could very well be called The Fodor’s Travel Guidebook for The Addams Family. I read some in-depth information about the show and saw the promo, and from what I can tell, this will be an absolutely AWESOME series if they can get it off the ground. (I'm actually praying they will.) Let others know and see who can help. This is something that should happen! Let's pull together and make it so!
